Section 3: The playbook in four moves

1. Price right. Your price decides how hard your year is. Divide your revenue goal by your price and you know how many you must sell. If you can’t make that many, or your market can’t buy that many, change the price before you change the plan.

2. Raise prices on purpose. Price is the first of five revenue drivers, and it needs no new customers. Run every increase as a campaign with an owner, a date and a plan for pushback. Raise prices at least with inflation, every year.

3. Cash flow is about timing. Map your days from order to paid. Ask suppliers for terms. Don’t make large purchases out of cash flow, and check how long anything takes to pay for itself before you buy it.

4. A few numbers, every week. Pick 5 to 7 numbers, each with a target and one owner. Set your Death Line, the least cash you’ll hold before you change the plan. Decide now what you’ll do when a number turns red.
